Mesquite, Texas, was founded as a depot town by the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1873 and was officially incorporated in 1887. Its name comes from the nearby Mesquite Creek, and its early economy was based on agriculture. Today, it is a thriving suburb known as the "Rodeo Capital of Texas".
