Pen Detail
I'll admit I got a little carried away with this one but its definitely one of a kind.
This Style and Technique take a long time to accomplish.
The Dragon Scale is made with Layers and layers of epoxy with a mix technique that produces the Dragon scale effect.
next to it are Bands of African Blackwood to enhance the contrast. From Egypt the African Blackwood shows off the rich history of the Egyptians.
Next you have Thin cut mahogany bands. Did you know Mahogany continues to be used in the construction of yachts and other high-end boats because of its durability, strength, and aesthetic appeal. Overharvesting has caused it to skyrocket in price.
The Outside bands are made from Boxelder Burl. I love the contrast that Boxelder puts out with its inconsistent grain.
Boxelder burl originates from the boxelder maple tree (Acer negundo), which is native to North America. Did you know Indigenous people also boiled the inner bark for an emetic tea and boiled the sap for medicinal syrup and treats?
